Where to get real estate investment training.
In real estate investment as in many other fields, knowledge is primordial. It doesn't, however, mean that everyone needs to spend thousands of dollars to get this knowledge. The type of training necessary will depend mostly on your personality and budget. The abundance of training methods and mentoring programs available for real estate investors can sometimes be overwhelming.
We recommend that anyone new to the field starts slowly. Before investing any considerable amount in training, it would be wise to explore and talk to actual investors. Most of the major metropolitan areas have at least one real estate investment club. It would be judicious to attend a number of meetings before making any important financial decision. For those who don't live in a metropolitan area or in proximity to one,the internet is a good source of information. It is full of sites and forums dedicated to real estate investing. There is a good chance that anyone looking actively will find at least one website with information pertaining to a specific local area.
After hedging their bets, some investors will feel better attending formal classes where subjects are predetermined and taught during a specific length of time. This type of training is slower than seminars and boot camps and allows real estate investing students an in-depth knowledge of the theoretical aspect of each subject.
If there is no rush, books are a great way to start. The only problem with books is that reading alone doesn't cultivate the self-confidence conducive to action. But when paired with meetings and/or seminars, enough exposure and knowledge can be gathered to get most investors started.
Another method of learning the trade is to sign up for mentoring with an experienced investor. It is a less stressful way of starting. By being paired with someone who is knowledgeable, time to learn and apply successfully specific investing strategies is curtailed. The only downside is that mentors charge a substantial amount of money for their advice and consultation time. Again, if positive results can be obtained in a relatively short period of time, the costs can be offset rather rapidly.
